| Video Discription | The word ‘fort’ conjures up visions of grand walls, bastions, and ramparts. Where would you find these in Bombay? However, if one looks closely, we find not one but seven small forts still standing in our crowded city. There were even more. These British forts of Bombay were built and rebuilt over a long period of time. They were part of a land defense system built to protect the island from threats on the seas. These ‘lost sentinels’ still stand today, mostly in ruins and quite forgotten. This talk aims to tell their story, and bring to light these amazing structures that are fast disappearing from our urban landscape. |
