| Video Discription | “Art & Ingenuity at the Jaipur Court” by Dr. Giles Tillotson on 25.08.2020 jointly hosted by the Museum Society of Mumbai and the CSMVS. The Collections of the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, in the City Palace in Jaipur, include arms and armour, textiles and garments, furniture, paintings and early photographs, all donated to the Trust by the late Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh and by his father, after whom the Trust is named. The Museum displays examples of all these types of courtly objects and has an ongoing programme to open new galleries. Dr. Giles Tillotson read Philosophy, History of Art and Oriental Studies at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was a Research Fellow at Peterhouse, Cambridge. He taught for fourteen years at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, where he became Reader in History of Art, and Chair of Art & Archaeology. Since 2011 he has been Consultant Director at the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, in the City Palace in Jaipur. He is a Fellow (and former Director) of the Royal Asiatic Society, London. He first visited India in 1979 (as a year-off student on a teaching assignment) and returned frequently before settling in India in 2004.
