Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea have increased mobile tariffs by 11 to 25 percent. This has increased the problems of common people struggling with inflation. On the other hand, Telecom Regulator TRAI says that telecom companies should improve their services. A senior TRAI official said that telecom companies are free to fix tariffs. But they have to provide good quality service to consumers. Improving the quality of service has been TRAI's top priority due to increasing incidents of call drops. When Anil Kumar Lahoti took over as TRAI Chairman in January, he had said that more stringent regulation and implementation is needed to prevent incidents of call drops. Recently, TRAI has tightened the rules for reporting base tower stations to fix accountability. Operators will now have to provide detailed information like location of the site, radiating frequency, backhaul connectivity, technology used like 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and the time of commissioning of the site.
