I am a specialist vascular surgeon and I have been treating people with leg vein problems for over 30 years. This superficial venous reflux can cause visible varicose veins, varicose eczema and if severe, it can cause leg ulceration. Under ultrasound guidance, fine catheters are inserted into the abnormal veins through needle pricks and closed with heat energy under local anaesthetic. There is no need for admission to hospital, general anaesthetic or painful incisions or stripping.
