Tammy Faye, which premiered at the Almeida Theatre in London, tells the story of a late 20th century TV evangelist who stood out from the rest because not only was she a woman, she also preached love not hate. Famously she embraced the gay community which in the 1980s was being ravaged by AIDS. Katie Brayben stars as the witty, compassionate Christian. The cast also includes Andrew Rannells, Zubin Varla, Nicholas Rowe, Peter Caulfield and Ashley Campbell. Set designer Bunny Christie, choreographer Lyn Page, costume designer Katrina Lindsay. In this review of Tammy Faye, Paul Seven praises the quality of the music and the script, but finds the musical flawed. Tammy Faye closed at the Almeida Theatre on 3 December 2022.
