Even when the income is up to 5,00,000/- you can essentially claim tax deductions and end up paying no taxes. As the income is going higher, you will fall into higher slabs where the rate of tax increases. There is 30% tax on income exceeding 10,00,000/-. When it comes to new rates, there is no tax on income up to 5,00,000/-, but beyond that there are several new slabs have been added.
