| Video Discription | Today I compare the SSL 2 Interface with some SSL XR627 X-Rack VHD Preamps. More specifically I compare the tonal quality of each preamp to see how they stand up to one another and to see if there is an audible quality difference! These preamps are drastically different price ranges so this was quite the interesting test! We recorded a kick and snare, using an sm57 on snare and Electrovoice RE-20 on kick, to test the preamp pairs. I compared the plain settings on each as the base comparison, then added some examples of the VHD 2nd and 3rd harmonics on the SSL XR627s as well as the 4K switch on the SSL 2 interface.
