| Video Discription | 🚙 DESTINATION: Ophir NSW 📍 WHERE: Ophir is located 27 km north east of Orange in the Orange City Council LGA. It's about 280 km west of Sydney. The site is at what is now a peaceful recreation reserve with picnic and camping facilities at the confluence of Summer Hill and Lewis Ponds creeks. ❓❓WHY: To explore the site where payable gold was first found in Australia in 1851, and to consider how this place quite literally changed the fortunes of Australia. 👉🏾 COUNTRY: Ophir is on Wiradjuri land. ❄️SEASON: We visited on a warm and sunny winter's day but temperatures can be very cold in the winter so make sure you come prepared. ⏳TIME: You will need at least half a day to explore the area, if not more. 🚶♀️ There are a number of walking trails in the reserve - pick up an information brochure from Orange Visitor Centre. 🍴☕ You will need to take your own food and water. There are plenty of lovely picnic tables and grassy areas to enjoy the peace and the history. 🚽 There are toilets in the reserve. |
