We took an Air Arabia flight from Bengaluru and after a layover at Sharjah we arrived at Nairobi. We checked into Hotel Boulevard, and then headed out to the Masai Market. Phone Sim you can avail at Nairobi Airport – Telkom Sim or SafariCom Sim Make sure you exchange currency to Kenyan Shilling from an authorized exchange agent, as some shops/uber drivers insist on cash payment only. We didn’t see tourists walking around, and it didn’t feel safe or comfortable to venture out late in evening. While it may seem generic, it was the first time we also received safety instructions from our hotel emphasizing that there could be a potential risk of theft , and hence the need to be extra cautious. Jotting down pointers here : 1. PUT YOUR PASSPORT, MONEY AND ANY OTHER VALUABLES IN A SAFE PLACE. Ask at the hotel reception and deposit your valuables in the hotel safe. 2. DO NOT CARRY TOO MUCH CASH and unnecessary documents while walking on the streets. At night avoid unlit or dark areas. 3. PLEASE CARRY YOUR HANDBAGS, CAMERAS ETC SECURELY CLOSE TO YOUR SIDE. Be careful of jewelry snatchers. 4. ALWAYS CASH YOUR MONEY AT RECOGNIZED BANKS OR ESTABLISHMENTS WITH LICENCES TO CHANGE MONEY.BE CAREFUL OF UNLICENCED MONEY CHANGERS. It is an offence to change money otherwise at an authorized establishment. 5. BEWARE OF CONMEN AND CONFIDENCE TRICKSTERS. Be careful with your money and who you trust. If you are suspicious of anyone, contact the police hotline 999. 6. IF YOU ARE USING A CAR: Always lock it when you leave it. Do not leave valuable things e.g.: laptops on sight. Don't give lifts to strangers. Park in well-lit areas at night.
