Tonnur was originally called Tondanur. Tonnur is becoming popular as a picnic spot. A beautiful and huge freshwater lake surrounded by hillocks is found here. Tonnur lake is a man-made water barrage across Yadavanadi connecting two rocky hills and was built in the times of Ramanujacharya around 1000 years ago. It was called Tirumala Sagara (lake of the sacred hills).
