Mostly he is remembered for the immortal Gazal's, he composed in hindi films. Some of the best works are with Lata, Muhammad Rafi, Talat Mehmood. Contemporary to S. D. Barman, Naushad, Sankar-Jaykishan of the 1950s, 1960s and the 1970s. Starting his career as second lieutenant and serving for two years until world war ll. He left the job and come to Mumbai to start musical career in 1946. He worked in All India Radio for short period. In 1948, he got his first opportunity in the film ' Pinjar mein bulbul'. In 1946 to 1948, he assisted music composer S. D. Barman. He scored his first big break with the film "Aankhen" in 1950. With that big starting there was no looking back for Madan Mohan. Madan Mohan 's greatness lies in infusing Indian classical music elements in hindu film. Parallaly, he was efficient enough to western classical part also. In 1971, Madan Mohan was honoured National Film Award for best music director in ' Dastak'. He also woned Film fare awards. We offer our best tribute to him on his ' Death Anniversary' on 14th July.
