| Video Discription | Are skeptics different on the other side of the world? Are methods of investigating the same? Ian Bryce is the longest serving Australian Skeptic, and has been investigating since 1981. The Australian Skeptics group offers a large prize for real evidence of the paranormal or new science. They have investigated many dubious claims and activities, some violating the laws of science, and some violating the laws of the land. They aim to educate consumers so they may buy with confidence, and inform investors so they may support projects with real potential for benefit. He graduated with BSc in physics from Monash University, Melbourne, in 1970, and Engineering in 1972. Ian has worked on communications, aircraft, spacecraft and launch vehicle projects. As Chief Engineer for a space company, he worked closely with the Russians on a launch project. He then worked in weapons and rocket tests at Woomera. As a lecturer at University of NSW, he created a subject Space Vehicle Design, which he delivered for seven years. This was followed by Satellite Communications at University of Technology Sydney. Ian is (since 1981) an investigator for Australian Skeptics, specialising in science claims. He administers their $100,000 Challenge for new phenomena which are not currently explained. Recently, as a science communicator, Ian developed a lecture series Physics and the Big Questions. His encounters include: Power Balance, Winecard, Lutec’s Free Electricity, The Indian Spirit Guide, Rossi’s Cold Fusion, Aquapol’s Rising Damp Repeller, and the Mind Body Spirit festival. This talk will examine those with a scientific slant. |
