In this approach we ask why we ordered the test in order to guide how we look at it. We order ekgs if the patient's heart rate is too fast or too slow. We also order EKGs to figure out if our patient is having a STEMI. With these three indications we can strategically look at the EKG for starting with the rhythm strips and then moving on to the rest of the leads to see if there are any ischemic changes.
