However, the primary reason we celebrate National Doctor’s Day on July 1st is to commemorate Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. Dr. Roy was honored with the Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the medical field and his commitment to public welfare. After his passing, the suburb of Salt Lake in Kolkata was named Bidhannagar in his memory. Since 1991, National Doctor’s Day has been celebrated annually on July 1st to mark his birth and death anniversary.
