| Video Discription | Title of the Talk: The Sun: A Force To Be Reckoned With Abstract of the Talk: The sun is the primary source of energy for life on Earth. However, its impact on our planet goes beyond just providing warmth and light. Ever-changing solar magnetic activities can affect life on earth in many different ways. Space weather, a subfield of the Sun-Earth connection, deals with the impact of solar activity on the near-Earth environment and human-made systems. We will discuss how the sun's activity, such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections, can impact Earth's environment through space weather events. The talk will focus on the interconnectedness of the sun and Earth, and the importance of studying space weather. About the Speaker: Prof. Joshi has completed his Ph.D. in Solar Physics from the Max-Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Göttingen, Germany (2014) with a thesis titled Magnetic and velocity field of sunspots in the photosphere and upper Chromosphere. He moved to Stockholm University, Sweden, and the University of Oslo, Norway for his postdoctoral research. Before joining IIA as an Assistant Professor, he spent a few months at the National Solar Observatory, Maui, Hawaii, USA. His research interests are Solar Magnetism, Spectropolarimetry, Solar Flares, Magnetic reconnection, and Solar chromospheric dynamics. |
